Digital Storytelling Project
This video is a construction of images, video, and audio media, combined in order to illustrate my research interests but more importantly, display how these interests are intertwined into my personal life and past experiences.
Audio narration over transitioning images allowed for a more engaging storytelling experience. Photos were intended, not to constrain imagery of the audio, rather, provide perceptual markers of which to prompt personal reflection and interpretation of the story. Videos were inserted in order further enhance the multimedia experience by giving the viewer a recording of the story while it was happening. The intent was to provoke a personal connection with the audience of which more simple forms of media (solely audio or images) cannot afford.
Creating this story engaged me, as a producer, more intensely and thoughtfully than other forms of description such as audio interviews in that the ability to convey more context/less ambiguity of audio descriptions (through simultaneous video and images) and the necessity to coordinate multiple sources of media into a coherent complex form of media allowed and promoted more consideration into how my story was to be presented. In addition to feeling more personally connected to the production, choosing appropriate imagery and video stimulus to pair with the audio (a script was written beforehand and prompted much reflection of research interests) led to extremely deep personal reflection of my logic model.
The affordances of digital storytelling are evident both in the audience experience but also the producer experience. I hope that through this video, viewers feel a personal connection to me and have a better understanding of not just what my interests are but how they are integrated into my life.
